Boats, boats and more boats. They are all over the place at Tug Fest each year. The festival runs over a three day weekend and is held in different ports each year on Georgian Bay.
Each vintage tug is now owned privately but at one time they were working boats, and commercially owned. One of their uses would be to guide the big lakers into port.
Tug Fest attract huge crowds that come to watch an annual tug race. The owners are approachable and each ‘captain’ will give you the history of each of their boats if you ask.
Richard and I had planned to take the Island Princess cruise through the Georgian Bay Islands from Parry Sound this day and came across this fun festival in the midst, at the wharf where the cruise boat was docked.

The festival will take place this year at the Midland docks. The tall ships will also be in port at Penetanguishene in the continued celebration of the War of 1812 on August 24 – 25. Looks like a two great weekends in August for photo ops.
