Walking along the waterfront of San Francisco first thing on Saturday morning was really enjoyable. The market was in full swing and tourists and locals were out buying supplies from the vendors selling fresh fruits, fish, and vegetables. Flowers filled the air with sweet scents.
Once we came back out to the street we started noticing all the street people.
There were two different types of society that were sharing the same air space, but what struck me was each group appeared to be oblivious of the other. On one side of the street there were the people buying food, flowers plus other non essentials and on the other side there were those not able to afford it…..
I was also amazed at the collection of stuff that this particular set of people had gathered. What do they do with it all?
Living in the country really didn’t prepare me for seeing so many living off the street. It was everywhere we went. I really couldn’t spend my money on useless things to bring home.
Thanks for visiting….

I was recently in San Francisco and homeless people capturing a lot of my energy and reflection about were is the real wealth! Their eyes was very joyful, at least when I did any kind of communication verbal or by a little gesture…
Most people just walk by and ignore.
Unhappily YES!
I have to admit I did too because I didn’t know what else to do. If you looked at them they asked for money. I couldn’t give to all of them.
I never give money. Isn’t the solution. But I simply see them so I’m telling “you ‘exist’ for me”…sometimes we exchange some words. If that occurs instantly you see it on their eyes! I give them another thing that money for going for alcohol or drugs…Bon! It Is my way to deal with 🙂
That is another way of looking at it. I wish I had this conversation before I went there…Next time maybe I will handle it differently. Thanks…

Excellent use of photography to make your very powerful case. well done!
Thanks…
I remember in the 70’s when I went to Europe for the first time. It was also the first time I experienced beggars, which was very uncomfortable. I realize that not all homeless people beg, but it just brought back that memory. But what an amazing amount of “stuff” the people in your picture have!!
janet
I saw people with carts filled but that was over the top! It must be hard to push..
