Ice fishing is another winter sport that attracts much attention. Fishing competitions are popular during the winter all over Ontario. March 15th is the last day for fishing on the ice for this particular area.
Everyone gets in on the fun or the sport of it. Some fish, if caught have to go back into the water because they are not allowed to be taken from the lake because of size, low quantities or just out of season.
Just as with a lot of sports, it is the fun of being out in the freezing cold, with a fishing pole tipped into a small, round hole cut in the ice, hot coffee steaming beside you and the camaraderie of others….
If a fish is caught (that is legal to keep) then all the better.

BUSY LITTLE COMMUNITY….
Some folks rent huts such as the one you see. They put little heaters in them, if it is really cold outside. Other have tents. The fishing holes can be inside or outside depending on the weather. The huts which have runners (like a sled) are brought out onto the frozen lake by snowmobiles.

Brings back memories of ice fishing in northern Minnesota when I was a kid.
It’s funny, I don’t remember ever seeing this when I was growing up in Quebec. It was all about skiing. Different here in Ontario, the fishermen are on all the lakes.
